Mound Pond

Lonoke County, Arkansas

Mound Pond is located in Scott, Arkansas, southeast of Little Rock. The lake borders the historic Toltec Mounds Archeological State Park.

The lake is 30 minutes from Baptist Health Hospital and 25 minutes from the Bill and Hillary National Airport. There is a Kroger 20 minutes to the south.

On and Around the Water

Mound Pond is 136 acres, the perfect size to offer space for activities and avoid overcrowding.

Anglers in Mound Pond say they generally find good fishing, primarily largemouth bass. If you want to cast a line out in another area, nearby is the Arkansas River, which is renowned for its fishing.

Ancient Wonders

The Toltec Mounds Archeological State Park, or the Knapp Mounds, is a national historical landmark and one of four in the Arkansas State Park System. The mound was a ceremonial ground for prehistoric Native Americans and is the largest of its kind in the state.

Ironically, the Toltec Mounds were not constructed by the Toltecs. The mounds were named by the land’s former owner, Mrs. Gilbert Knapp, who made the historical mistake. Rather, the mounds were built by the Plum Bayou people, who are a distinct culture from the rest of the Native American groups in the Mississippi Valley.

Visitors to the Toltec mounds have a unique opportunity to see archaeology in practice.

Explore Little Rock

For a break from the agrarian atmosphere of the Mound Pond lakeside, residents can travel to Little Rock, Arkansas’ capital and largest city.

Little Rock’s River Market District provides a vibrant nightlife with concerts, live theater, sports bars, and more. The district is located in downtown Little Rock.

Little Rock is also home to several breweries, wineries, and even one distillery, Rock Town, which is Arkansas’ first legal distillery since prohibition. Rock Town offers tours and tasting.

If children are in your company, you can take them to the Little Rock Zoo, which has over 500 of over 200 different species.

Performing arts fans may enjoy the Robinson Center premiers traveling Broadway shows, the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra as well as performing artists and conditioners.

The Foodies Flashpacker named Little Rock “America’s Next Hottest Foodie City,” which is seemingly appropriate considering the city is home to a countless variety of southern comfort food. The Whole Hog Cafe is known for its ribs and renowned as the best barbeque in Arkansas.
